Who We Are

We are a Non-Profit Organization

As a non-profit organization created in 2016, we are a group of people who help Latino Community, specially Venezuelan citizens,  residents of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Clemmons, and surrounding areas of the Triad, North Carolina.

We want to impact the lives of Latino immigrants, especially Venezuelans,  through our support and programs. We also strive to provide humanitarian aid to suffering communities in Venezuela.

History

In 2014 a group of Venezuelans of different religions began the initiative to form a prayer group at the Holy Family Catholic Church in the city of Clemmons. The group met once a week to pray for all the murders that occurred in Venezuela at that time as a result of the protests. Small events were held but no leadership had been established.

In 2015 the prayer group became a meeting group to discuss concerns and to channel resources and help.  As more people began to join the group became more organized and Marina Castillo became President, and Amber Garcia was Vice-President and Douglas Garcia became its treasurer.

In 2016 “Venezolanos en el Triad” was founded as a non-profit organization with Marina Castillo as President, Jose Villahermosa as Vice-President, Marynes Perez as Secretary, and Kati Quinones as Treasurer. Thayra Davila served as action volunteer helping with resources and Maria (Lala) Romero served as event organizer. The organization began to plan and coordinate events such as Christmas Dinner, Arepazo in the parks, and Zumbathon. We also coordinated with allies to collect supplies to Venezuela. Xiomara Parra, in charge of social network, and Luly Beckles, in charge of Public Relations, helped to formalized ideas for events and to help Venezuelans immigrating to North Carolina as well as developing the idea of collecting supplies (food and medicine) to help Venezuelans in the needy areas.

In 2018-2020 Marynes Perez was the President. At that moment more people joined as volunteers and collaborators due to the larger attendance of the events.  The social events became popular since the sharing of values and dishes was the main focus. Likewise, the collection of canned foods,  medicines and basic needs products increased  and shipments to Venezuela became more frequent.Substantial donations of medical supplies were received and other non profit organizations.

In 2020-2022 Maria Eugenia Rebella was the president but at that time the Covid19 hit the world and the organization suspended activities for the whole year In 2021 the organization started again doing some activities and sending some help to Venezuela. In July 2022, President Maria Eugenia Rebella renounced the position due to personal and employment reasons. At that moment, Marina Castillo was elected as interim president. Currently, our board is conformed by Marina Castillo as President, Marynes Perez as vice president, Thayra Davila as Secretary, and Maria Dugarte Romero as Treasurer.

Maria Dugarte, I left my beloved Venezuela in the year 2000 in search of a better future. Currently, I have been fighting to have a better quality of life for the 21 years that have elapsed without stepping on Venezuelan soil. I work with all my passion in the organization of Venezuelans in the triad with no other benefit than helping our people mistreated by an indolent government of the tragedy both social and economic. I am a faithful defender of justice and a tireless lover of selflessly helping all Venezuelans who need it here where I currently reside in Winston Salem NC. My north and greatest desire for this organization are to grow and support our beloved Venezuela. I hope this non-profit organization has more people willing to help.
